How do you find a way forward when all you can see is a way out?
I remember what that feels like. I spent most of my mid 20s trying to find one reason to carry on living.
Just one reason.
Somedays, I couldn’t even find that.
I look kind of happy in this picture from back then, but it was actually one of ‘those’ days.
Thankfully a good friend dragged me out for a walk to go see the daffodils. That awkward smile is actually me thinking how close I came to ending my life that day.
It’s nearly 20 years since that tough time in my life, and I’ve spent those years working in addiction, mental health, homelessness and suicide prevention.
I’ve been a government advisor, university researcher and helped design a whole bunch of health services.
But I never had a chance to share how I managed to survive.
I wrote this book for those of us who are looking into a huge black hole and feeling that life is not worth living.
It might also help those people who are supporting a loved one or a client who feels that way.
